Meerkat vs. Jack Russell Terrier

New BFF's (best friends forever), Pippi, a Jack Russell terrier and Kimmi, a meerkat have been sighted playing at the Rostock Ritz in Namibia.

Pippi arrived at the Rostock Ritz Desert Lodge (the only Ritz in the world surrounded by rocks and desert) in the middle of the night, whereby she immediately jumped on the sleeping owner's (Wolfgang "Kücki" Kühhirt) bed. Pippi had probably gotten separated from her family on the main road, about five miles away from the lodge. She somehow managed to walk all that way through baboon, jackal, snake, leopard and cheetah territory to find a warm bed and someone to feed her. No one ever claimed or came back for her.

Pippi had been at the lodge for about six months when she befriended two of the resident meerkats, Kimmi and her daughter, Victor-5. (Meerkats, are a type of mongoose—a wild animal, which normally cannot be pet or fed by humans.) They enjoy each other's company and spend much of the day amusing themselves at the lodge. At night, the playmates go to bed, although not together. Kimmi and Victor-5 sleep in baskets in the manager's office, while Pippi prefers bunking with Kücki.

Pippi has also bonded with Maya, a baby zebra at the lodge.
