British Airways definitely had the song first, it was used throughout the late 1970s and early 1980s as part of their radio and tv advertisements and even as a tagline on their billboard ads. I believe one such billboard is seen in the Bond film Moonraker as Jaws crashes through it, but I may be wrong...

Not sure how or who thought it would be a good football song. Living in the UK in 1982 and remembering this WC, I can't say I remember this song at all!

Who would have thought that a bunch of footballers could sing? But hey they actually sounded like they pulled it off with this one, some great harmony!
