  • Daryll Clark, welcome to the Washington Redskins. If you can beat out Richard Bartel and take Colt Brennan's spot I will be happy to have you play as a possible third string. Best of luck to you hear in Washington D.C.

  • @MVillani1985 Also, I'd like to add an odd note. Did you know that according to at least one list I read, the 2005 Lions are the best Big Ten team of the 2000s, winning the Big Ten during a strong year (losing only to a Michigan that almost beat a Notre Dame that should have beaten USC). The 2002 Bucks were placed at #2, the 2002 Hawkeyes at #3, then the 2008 Lions, then the 2005 Bucks. The 2009 Lions placed in the top 15, the 2006 Lions were #25 (we were two plays from being Big Ten co-champs).

  • @JunmaiShu That 2004 team that lost 6-4 to Iowa was a weird one, best defense I'd ever seen, yes even better than the 1986 team. However, the offense was the second worst I'd ever seen (the 2003 team's offense was way way worse, we at least killed our cupcakes in 2004). The Big Ten may be down, but as we saw in 2009, it's not as down as the media says. The Big Ten seems to have a sharp divide between the top and bottom anymore, though. PSU, OSU, and Iowa at the top.

  • Eh... the Big Ten isn't what it once was. Even in a down year PSU still has more talent on pretty much a perennial basis than all but OSU, Iowa, and occasionally Wisc. (UM at one time, but those days are gone). I think they can still win most of their games. I still say 8-4 or 7-5.

This team is nowhere near as bad as the one that once lost 6-4 to Iowa, down year or not. It won't be that bad, but not a good year either.

  • @MVillani1985 Michigan at home is also possible, I mean we won't be world beaters, but the last two years, they've averaged 4 wins a year and 1.5 Big Ten wins (both years over Big Ten bottomfeeders except for Wisconsin in 2008 but that was more luck). But still, those three are tossups. Northwestern will be good, we won't (we can't rely on home advantage anymore as we saw last year), Minnesota's a thorn in our side, the others (Iowa, Ohio State, Alabama) need no explanation.

  • @MVillani1985 Here's my reasons. Youngstown State and Kent State are jokes, we can't lose those games. Temple is improving, but we're still light years ahead. Indiana has never beaten us and it's a virtual home game (but there's always a first time, just hope it's not 2010), so that's 4 wins guaranteed. Illinois will improve over last year, but they've never beaten us in Beaver Stadium, Sparty also struggles in Beaver Stadium (we went 4-7 in 2004 but rolled them 37-13).

  • Here's my predictions: Youngstown State - W (but only by 23-10 or so)/@ Alabama - L/Kent State - W/Temple - W (probably)/@ Iowa - L/Illinois - Tossup/@ Minneosta - L/Michigan - Tossup/Northwestern - L/@ Ohio State - L/Indiana - W (probably)/Michigan State - Tossup. So that means four wins (counting the two probablies, otherwise 2-10 or 3-9), putting us at 4-8. We may win as many as three tossups to put us at 7-5, but I'm doubting it. Still don't hope to hurt for 6-6 or better.

  • @JunmaiShu After the events of the past months, I've been saying the same thing. I said this here when I thought we had talent coming back. Even worse, Paul Jones only looked good against our 2nd team defense. Newsome is a poor man's MRob at best and Rasad Casey at worst and McGlon is Morelli at best and Senaca at worst. I'm less optimistic our record this year. I'm thinking 8-4 is out of the question, 7-5 to, we go 6-6 at best, 5-7 is more realistic, while 4-8 is very possible.

  • I have to say that Iowa's team looks better than PSU's this year, which isn't too encouraging since they seem to be able to beat PSU even when the opposite is true. 17 year old Paul Jones is probably their best QB, and he won't be playing this year. Newsome is MRob without the deep ball and less power, and McGloin just isn't any good.

In my honest assessment I don't think PSU will be very good this year. 8-4 at best and 7-5 seems more realistic.

  • Gotta love these highlight videos. The Iowa highlights make it look like we won that game. Both Iowa losses have been irritatingly close lately, decided by a single play. Hope we beat them in 2010, though, to put the alltime record back in our favor.
