I am trying to learn Japanese at my University. I just love this language :) I am gonna go to Japan in 2 years. So I hope until that time I will be have good Japanese skills :)

I'm not fluent in Nihongo yet, but Desu is all one solid word instead of two glued together. I have never come across a sentence structure of any kind that lead me to believe "de" in "desu" has a specific purpose.
"de" is used as a particle by itself in the middle of any sentence in reference to an object, place/location, or as a noun in (de) general. You might say "de" is used "in Japanese " as "Nihongo de" (in Japanese)
Search "Japanese Particles" on Wikipedia for good source.
