@ashburnhouse He has denounced Saddam in the harshest terms. The difference with Chomsky is that he doesn't stop at criticizing Saddam; he also criticizes US support for Saddam, because it's of far more moral significance for Americans.

Any of you Chomskyites know what he says about Saddam using mustard gas and nerve agents to kill 200,000 Kurds? Or his state sponsoring of Abu Nidal, the guy who set off Bombs in the Vienna and Rome airports?

Thanks ! I'll read that up. I was only familiar with Hitchens "popular" raging against religion.

@jccusell Search for these Slate articles:
Citizen Enemies: Those who protest the killing of Anwar al-Awlaki have to say what they would have done instead
In Defense of Endless War (yes, that really is the title)
Go After Qaddafi: Stop worrying about an "exit strategy." What America needs in Libya is an entrance strategy.
Pakistan is the enemy
I sometimes get the feeling than the US intentionally creates it future enemies to keep the military relevant. Keeping the "military relevant" serves so many varied purposes for the corporate world. It's the cheapest way, for them, to garner huge profits as the cost for the military, used almost exclusively for corporate projects, is entirely borne by others. Not only is it cash cow, it's projection and use is just as profitable. The only cost is to keep the jingoist class happy.
