@JohnLennon100 if u read again (can u read?) i said 'in part' note for note-but if you're gna take everything literally.............in a nutshell, that section rips off the Paul section (as they've both admitted!) no big deal, everyone does it.....change the melody slightly to get away with it etc
@JohnLennon100 how easily you turn to abuse? what a sad individual you must be. Must've hit a nerve, realising you're wrong and now back-tracking and abusive. You've gone from saying it has nothing to do with it to saying 'maybe there's an influence'-who's being arrogant? I'm just stating what I hear and what Jeff Lynne and Paul McCartney have both confirmed. A 'Proffessional musician' surely should be able to hear it? Who's the idiot? Not my fault that you appear to be tone deaf.
@thenowuk Listen you piece of arrogant scum ... the melodic line of the McCartney's melody is different from ELO's, maybe there's an influence in the expressiveness of the song, but from that point of view there's million of similarities in the songs you hear out there. So stop feeling you have the truth in your hands and stop making an idiot of yourself. I'm a professional musician. In your original comment you say that is "note for note taken ..." now you say is a direct lift? Idiot ...
@JohnLennon100 You're completely wrong. The verses of Mr Blue Sky are a direct lift from the 'woke up fell out of bed' Paul section of A Day in the life. It even has the panting of the out of breath character.all the frames of reference are there. It's hardly a secret as both Lynne and McCartney have discussed this in interviews and anyone with ears and half a musical brain can hear it! It'snot a criticism, just a fact.Of course The Beatles were influenced by Motown groups-hardly new news
@thenowuk MR Blue Sky has Nothing to do with a Day in the Life/Paul's part ... ELO influence from the Beatles is very explicit. Now, The Beatles were also masters at concocting these songs inspired and using bits of this and that from Motown groups ....actually their harmonies were very similar to the Shirelles/Ronettes ...only with an English and male twist. But they were also able to write songs really out of inspiration, which happened around 65.
Jeff Lynne was very clever at nicking things(a musical magpie) and moulding them into the ELO sound.I mean,Mr Blue Sky is (in part) note for note taken from the McCartney verses of 'A day in the life'. I admire much of ELO's work but it can't quite compare with Lennon's best Beatles stuff because it lacks its originality, honesty and imagination and is too derivative.. Having said that,Elo's album 'Time' is a masterpiece where Lynne really found his own thing.

We all know about John Lennon- but Jeff Lynne does not get enough credit for the genius that he is.
