I did this...the first monster I killed dropped a freeze and I picked it up, and I got the plasma shotgun at 1/5th health.

it works, but if you want more than 10000000 exp in survival take the jackhammer or plasma shotgun

It works but it's hard to actually kill the enemy with low health without dying... anyways it's fun to play with this weapon :D

dident worki killed it in one shot it disapers in one shot stood were its bodey was let my self get atacked and nothing happend

It doesn't actually 'unlock' the gun. It just gives you it. Contrast to 'unlocking' where you'll get it as random bonus drops or through the 'random weapon' perk.
