Our familypictures to music by Dr Hook. This song is NOT about a couple of different ages, but about letting the children fly out and find their own lives.

  • To everyone thinking that every text, poem or lyrics can only be understood the way the writer was thinking. That's being a squarehead. Everything must be put in a box with only one label. Life does not work like that. And by the way, at least two of the members from Dr Hook do actually like what I've done...

  • If its absolutely not about lovers of different age, then how do you explain "And i´m tired of running when your only learning to crawl", does that mean that the little sweetheart is slow in the head, or that he wants her to grow up ´n get out.

I think you can relate to music in any way that fits you. Anyhow, I dare to doubt the song was written for your soul pupose.

  • Is your comment directed to me? In that case I can tell that my husband is two years older than me - the others in the pictures are our children. And a tip: enjoy the harmony in what you see and hear instead of analize it! Music and pictures are like flowers; take care of the moment you can see and smell them - don´t carve in them to see what´s inside. That, my friend is the difference between culture and barbary.

  • To me it means that when you have some children you sometimes get really tierd that they have to re-do your or their brothers or sisters mistakes. And you want them to grow up in this very moment...Then they go to bed, and you watch them sleep like babies, and you just love that they are still your small children.

  • Loved the photo montage. Beautiful family you have there. Did the other commenters really listen to the lyrics and know it has nothing at all to do with age?

Shel Silverstein & Dennis Locorriere wrote this about a soldier returning from Viet Nam and not able to pick up where he left off with his small town high school sweetheart/wife. That happened so much with the shell shocked vets who were not able to reaclimate to life back here in "The World".

    Happening again today.

    Thanx for sharing.

  • Thanks for telling! But on the other hand, songs as well as poems connect to every persons life the way it fits - on persons, places, politics whatever. Like beauty is in the viewer´s eyes, lyrics can be in the reader´s or listener´s ears or minds. (But it´s always good to know the writer´s true story!)

  • great upload. love the video.

  • First time in ages I've heard this song.

Thanks for sharing this with all of Y'tubers!

  • @nielsmsson "And i´m tired of running when your only learning to crawl"references that the man (older) has more had more romantic experience than the younger immature girl.

Next line "And you're heading somewhere, but I've been to somewhere and found it was nowhere at all this" shows hes had life experiences (chased his dreams) while she(younger not) has not

Listen to the song again. You are free to interpet it the way you like, and I will defend with my life your right to be wrong

  • Well the poster has definetly missed the boat interpeting the meaning of the song . Song is about lovers who are a few years apart cased closed...I said Good Day

  • I'd never heard this song before even though my dad was a Dr Hook fan and we always played a greatest hits tape on our travels as a family. He passed away a few months ago and when I looked up some Hook for songs that might remind me of car journeys with him, this one popped up. thanks so much for posting it.

  • When my daughter got married she asked me to pick out a song for the father/bride dance. This is what we used.
