@Neko3Noskire well the flash contains the main burst of gamma radiation which causes that, the fallout mostly contains the remnant uranium and such which is why areas remain contaminated

@AzumiRM well the cloud often carries massive doses of radioactive fallout though which is the majority of the problem in using them as you get horrible birth defects/mutation like the hiroshima babies.

People seem to like the top part (the non destructive part) of atomic bomb explosions / the mushroom cloud. Destruction is caused by the sockwave and blast surrounding the base. The cloud it's self might consume a bird or two but causes no damage at all after the initial blast.
