  • First off I do respect people who are good at what they do and Ms Krasnoo looks like she's an authority on musical kata but I'm not that keen on this being described as 'martial art' - sure, there's the art, but where's the martial?

  • Where is a bikini outfit?

  • ...but can she cook?

  • @soetsme Kata does not work! not for self defense! its an ineffectual training tool! its only good for forms competition and that's it! and the martial arts that use Kata like karate,kung fu,tae kwon do,are not good for self defense at all! kata and the styles that use them are impracticable for self defense! brazilian jujitsu and m.m.a are effective forms of self defense! the traditional arts are just that,arts and nothing more! to much art,not enough martial!

  • wonder woman twirl. LOL

  • and that guy from step by step was trying to teach her !

  • I remember seeing her in Kickboxer 4

  • i think your missing something here bunkai is the self defence applications of particular move/movess in a kata :)

  • Worth a thought? Hardly since I'm the guy who first gave the Gracie brothers international exposure outside of Brazil and published the articles that helped make BJJ one of the most popular arts in the world. A grappling art requires the participation of two people. And point fighting is not real fighting, it's a game of tag, not a life or death situation where the goal is to take your opponent out with one move and you need to be rooted to derive the necessary power.

  • I might have said it before but I might say it again;

    I do see a point with Kata. Since children are allowed to compete in Kata, and it opens up martial arts to a lot of persons it's nothing but good. It's a good exercise-form; and if done correctly it looks great. However, I do question the actual usefulness of it when it comes to learning applications, and I think that I believe it might even be counterproductive when it comes to learning self-defence techniques.

  • Kata have been around for a long time, and so have dancing; and it's a good tool for learning Kihon, no doubt about that.

    In competitions very few use the "kihon-fighting", in the point fighting most uses a bouncing style that is quite different from the kihon taught in most katas, and in the full contact the stance and close to everything is different from the normal kihon.

    The kings of the self-defence are the BJJ folks, and I've never seen a BJJ kata... worth a though?
