My border terrier has been having these fits for a couple of years now. Generally one a month lasting for about 7-9 minutes long. The fits occur mainly during the early hours of the morning and a couple during the day/evening. He as gone without having a fit for about 4 months which was his longest spell.

  • I have a pug who does the exact same thing, I've been to two different vets and I can't figure out what it is! Have you had a diagnosis? He always pukes beforehand and sometimes during, but the only thing that seems different from your dog is that mine's episodes last up to several hours :(

  • I have not had a confirmed diagnosis from the vets...they said it could possibly be epilepsy which an MRI scan could confirm...they have never heard of CECS ...but to me its the cramping syndrome. I'm really sorry to hear your dogs episodes last up to several hours..as i know it is distressing. Leon most of the time is sick after the episode. To date he is still having a fit about every 4 to 6 weeks apart and still lasting for on average 7 minutes. Has your vet heard of the cramping syndrome?

  • I think I figured out what my dogs problem is! I think it's a toxic reaction to something he was eating. When I lived at my old house my room mate would always leave trash bags on his floor and my dog would rip them open and get into them. Then I moved to another place where he hasn't gotten into the trash in over a year and he hasn't had any episodes in that amount of time. Then one day at a friends house he got into the trash again and had an episode. That must be it!

  • Our 5 year old rescue lab/hound mix has had two episodes that we have witnessed. Looks just like this but only 1-2 minutes and pants heavily afterwards. She is not totally aware during the episode but gradually comes around. She is not incontinent during or after. It looks like a complex partial seizure that I've seen in humans, but I've never heard of CEC so thanks for the tip.

  • My border has just started with these episodes. I have been to the vet and he thinks its epilepsy but I'm not so sure and have been looking into canine epiloid cramping syndrome
