@wildheartmuse it depends. sometimes crying can raise apgar scores. rubbing will stimulate breathing. but, i agree if things are cool, it is better to place the baby on the mom's chest and let them get used to the world on his/her terms.

So cruel though. One doesn't have to clean a baby right away. It is better to place it on it's mothers bare chest and let them get acquainted. Rubbing a newborn causes it to scream and feel terror......birth can be gentle and beautiful, even peaceful.

They cry because it's new and fucking scary, and nobody's giving them time to adjust before they start with the wiping and arranging and measuring.
Can't take a minute for the baby to be held by the woman it's been inside of for so long, give it a chance to adjust to being out, have to get it clean first.
