No, you couldn't. That's why there's two versions of this song, one that they play on the radio, which says "you son-of-a-gun" and the other version. Growing up, all I'd heard was the radio version. I didn't even know another version existed until I was in ninth or tenth grade.

Calm down. It was probably bleeped out back in 1979, when this was taped. The Midnight Special was a TV show, if I understand right, and those words weren't allowed on TV.
