Garais Dancis

Latvian bagpipe tune. Played in a modified bulgarian gaida to sound like a latvian duda. In a weather about 32ºC, so the reeds are closing.

It is nice, but it is too fast. Its an old latvian dance, danced slowly. And by the way, nice job. It is almost imposible to learn it.

hey that bagpipes are beautiful ,the sound and the tone of the chanter what kind of reeds use?can you tell me more of this bagpipes..please..

It uses single reeds. The chanter uses a composite single reed, the tie its fastened in the body, to sound louder, but still its a single reed. Chanter slightly conical. Plays from D to E, no overblowing, and have flats and sharps after G. the whole scale is d-e-f#-g-g#-a-a#-b-c-c#-d-e. These accidentals are played because a little hole in the upper part of the chanter, called "flea hole", in the place of the high "d". The drone would be tuned in D, G or A, but I use it commonly in D.

I bought it from a bulgarian master, sounding a 5th lower than the common djura gaida, because this is the most common tuning in Latvia, although it have the adition of the sharps. After, I did put other drone, and exchange the bag, although I think now that the old bag, natural (and smell not exactly good..) was better. These tune its an latvian traditional dance, very knowed. Thanks for your interest,
