The book "George Washington's Sacred fire" by Peter Lillback is based on ones opinions and not from historical facts! In the process of vindicating Washington's so called "Sacred Fire" Mr Llillback and company with no apology made desecrate Paine's Sacred Fire.
Paine's Sacred Fire was arguably way more sacred then Washington's.
As the Christians have always done Mr Lillback is calling Thomas Paine an ATHEIST in the true sense of the word with this book. In chapter 2 page 38 Mr Lillback tells us that Thomas Paine never believed in "Devine Providence" and for this reason George Washington couldn't be a Deist because Washington did believe in Providence.
His only proof that Paine didn't believe in Providence is the definition of the word Deist,or Deism given by Noah Webster (a very devout Christian who had every reason to deter mankind from Deism) and a quote from Mr Paine that's totally taken out of context.
The only quote that Peter gives is this one,and it's totally taken out of context.
"It seems as if parents of the Christian profession were ashamed to tell their children anything about the principles of their religion. They sometimes instruct them in morals, and talk to them of the goodness of what they call Providence, for the Christian mythology has five deities — there is God the Father, God the Son, God the Holy Ghost, the God Providence, and the Goddess Nature."
Key words that show Mr Paine was talking about the Christians idea of Providence are,"the principles of their religion",or "what they call Providence"
You have to go to the way back of the book to get this information, but it shows Peter Lillback is intentionally lying about Paine's character as Thomas Paine totally believed in Devine Providence. 15 years of research and Peter never read Paine talking about Providence? He did on many occasions showing the self-serving lies of this book!
If your going to use Paine for an example of what a Deist is,or what Deism means then use Thomas Paine's definition of these words and not a Christian cohort like Noah Webster.
What a big waste of time for Mr Lillback and company as they try to resurrect Washington into a Christian.
I really don't care that Washington could have been a Christian but why lie to get this point across by slandering this great world hero called Thomas Paine! You kinda get an idea of what they did to the character Jesus when they twisted the truth to turn him into a demigod.
Would love to talk with Peter in person, but he doesn't answer my emails. For good reason I'm sure!
G.W wasn't a Christian at all. He belonged to two Churches but was never a believer, the Preachers of those churches even said that G.W was not a Christian. That's pretty powerful. Many quotations about G.W NOT being a Christian.
If you do not accept Jesus Christ you are NOT a Christian...Get it?
