@MrScorn Understandable confusion, but the term comes from medieval times, where 'pick' was a term used synonymously for 'steal' or 'pilfer', so pocket thieves were called pick-pockets (Literally meaning pilfer-pockets). Eventually the noun became a verb through the use of -ing.
