Vic-20 Rockman is a BoulderDash-like game where you dodge the baddies, collect the treasures and dodge the falling boulders. Each screen is a section of a larger maze, complete a screen and then choose which direction to go to the next screen, essentially allowing you to choose the levels you play. Once all screens have been completed you restart at the beginning but with more monsters and treasures. Ovine by Design remade Rockman called HamsterJam.

  • The game was fantastic, so much achieved on the humble Vic. I'd usually turn the volume down so not to go mad listening to it repeat every 10 seconds or so ;) Hey marksreb, sorry not seen your reply (11 months ago)! Thanks for commenting and more so thanks for making such a memorable Vic 20 game, even if the music was on the annoying side :) A mean achievement for 3KB!

  • The music was quite annoying mostly as its such a short repetition. We wrote the remake, the original was credited by M&S Srebalius.

  • Oh, you should port this for mobile phones!

  • This and Jetpak were my two favourite games on the Vic 20. So many good memories! :)

  • i've heard of programmer art. this must be programmer music. there is no thought or substance. it's hilarious.

  • Awesome game! I will never forgive my baby bro completing this before me back in the day!

  • is the music a bad version of "popcorn" ?

  • @marksreb Well if you were really a VIC 20 programmer, you would know that the computer had an overall of 5K memory for code, not 3.5k which was just for basic programs.

  • The music is obscene. I do remember the game being rather fun though. It's a miracle my mother didn't throw the computer out of the window though, what with having to listen to this cacophony on repeat for hours on end...

  • rockman music, always remembered

  • well i couldn't write music and had only 200 bytes for the data, so yes looking back its bad. but what do you expect in 3000 bytes ? .. at least its 100% machine code and not written in basic with machine code routines. ;o)
