After Mahmoud Ahmadinejad implicitly attributed the murder of Neda Soltan to enemies of the government on CCN and asked why the person who had taken the video of Nedas death did not show the murderer, Internet sites posted a video clip that showed people seizing the executor. The clip shows a Basiji militiaman by the name of Abbas Karghar Javid under attack from angry people.

Ahmadinejad has repeatedly said that the death of Neda was a suspicious event. Iranian officials have tried to attribute this murder to rioters or even foreigners. But in this video clip after Neda is fired at, people at the scene seize a man who is allegedly the person who fired at Neda, as the doctor who was witness to the murder Arash Hejazi had told the BBC and Voice of America radio stations earlier. The man screamed I did not want to kill her, as he was overpowered by people who shouted at him.

The video clip shows how people attempted to find the identity of the person. Ahmadinejad has said that people who had shot the video clip should air it so that the judiciary would arrest him. How can a camera that had been recording a video clip of a person for ten minutes not have recorded an image of the murderer who was only 6 feet away from the victim. This is a question for us, he has said.

In his interview the Voice of America and in response to the question whether Abbas Karghar Javid whose identity card had been seized by the public immediately after shots were fired at Neda is her killer, Arash Hejazi said, After Neda passed away in my arms, I got up and stepped back in shock and watched as there was nothing I could do. A few minutes later people seized a man who kept shouting I did not want to kill her. This sentence makes everybody believe that he was the murderer. People took away his identity cards and shouted that he was a Basiji and a Passdaran Guard member. After some discussion, people still did not know what to do with the man.

Some people in the crowd said he should be confronted right then. Others said that they were not like them [meaning like the Basijis and Guards)] and so cannot kill him. They also felt they could not hand the man to the police. And saw no utility in referring him to the authorities. So they took of his shirt and let him go. But they kept his cards. I cannot comment on the card that you are showing me because I had not seen the original card. But the picture on the card is the same person who kept shouting I did not want to kill her, Hejazi continued in his interview.

After Nedas murder, security agents exerted pressure on her family and her fiancé Caspian Makan to cooperate with them in their version of events in identifying the murderer. The arrest of Caspian and putting him under pressure was so that he would publicly say that Nedas murderer was a member of the Mujjahedin High organization. But even though the identity of Nedas murderer, Abbas Karghar Javid, who was captured by people, was posted on Internet sites, authorities did not undertake even a cursory investigation on him.
