In my latest Clay Clip, I'll show you how to throw a tea bowl with a natural looking landscaped-rim. • Nice tea bowl, Bill. After buying and reading your book Wheel-Thrown Pottery I made one of your ribs. Mine is a little wider, but works well. It never occurred to me to use the wide angle, but it looked good for the added lines. I typically use the 90 degee curve of a wood rib; now I have another thing to try, and I may need one less tool out. Thanks.

  • @potterybyjohn Hi John - It's all in how you use the beveled edges on the rib. I should be coming out with some short videos on how to use each tool ... soon. So much to do!

  • LOVE! Mr. Van Gilder, I have books and DIY Network slides shows from you and didn't know you were on YouTube! ! Hot diggity! Thanks for the lovely tea bowl! I'll be trying that SOON!!

  • @ThatLynnGirl - I'm new to YouTube and Facebook but gradually learning the ropes - hope to see you back here again.

  • Love, love, love this! Thank you so much! There are always videos telling you how to make the "perfect" cup, but rarely is there ever one that shows you how to make a lovely asymmetrical form. Keep your videos coming!

  • @hobbypotter - thanks for watching. More on the way!

  • nice Ceramic, nice Music!

  • @vangilderpottery Oh absolutely, I'm subscribed! Welcome to the YouTube and facebook family!!!

  • @stevebootonceramic and also Dorothy on Facebook : How I trim depends on if I have many pots, or, just a few. If I have a lot of pots, I will throw a cone shaped chuck from soft clay and skim it dry with a rib. I'll then drop each cup in succession over the chuck to be trimmed. If I have just a few, I'll throw a 1" thick clay pad which allows the uneven rim to press securely into the pad. The important part is making sure the untrimmed base is level and both these chucks allow that to happen.

  • I am interested to see how you trim the base

    regards

    steve
