Kombucha tea has many health benefits. If you do a search, you will find many great sites filling you in on those benefits. I can only speak from what I have personally experienced. I've noticed that I have more energy when I drink kombucha often, my skin is clearer, my bowels are more frequent, my immune system is stronger, and I have a general feeling of well being. Seriously.

If you search Youtube you will find a few videos on how to make your own S.C.O.B.Y. , using a bottle of unflavored kombucha.

It really is simple to make your own kombucha. The only thing I would stress, is to make sure your hands and the tools you are using are sterile. Also, make sure there is no soap residue in the container you are puttin gthe scoby in.

Here is what you will need:

Scoby
1 gallon of pure water
6-8 tea bags ( a mix of black and green or just all of one of these)
1 cup of sugar
1 gallon glass jar

Coffee filters or clean cloth to place over brewing jar (you want it to be breathable, but not open enough to allow fruit flies to get in, so NO cheese cloth)

Glass bottles or jars to bottle finished brew
Fresh fruit, flavored teas, or fresh ginger to flavor komucha after it has finished brewing

*please don't use plastics or metals for storing kombucha brew or scoby*

  • did you start from a kombucha mother or a bottle of kombucha tea? i dont know how long to let my first batch go be for i can start a know one with my kombucha mother, i started out of a bottle?and its been to weeks of tomorrow. any help you could offer would be helpful thanks.

  • @onlygodstime The first time I started brewing was from a mother. This time it was from a bottle of plain GT's. I let it brew for a few weeks to let the scoby get nice and big. If you have a solid scoby at the top of your brew, I would taste it to see how it is. If it is too sweet, then let it brew a few more days. Two weeks is a good brew time imo. The typical brew time is anywhere from 6days to 3 weeks. It's all personal preference really. I hope this helps :0)
