@JoelIsaacMills John Coltrane was never a clichè; he was a movement. Everyone else are the clichès. Innovators are exempt. When someone masters Coltrane's clichès get back to me. Charlie Parker, too.

tim this is KILLING. Love reading the negative comments, best one was 'phrasing could be better'. Get out of town - do people know how hard shit like this is to do on bass? Great effort man, came to this from your Had solo...fab playing and technique for over 99% of the world's bass playing population to aspire to!

@jaomartini
This one I read. I had a Bb Transcription of it.

coltrane was so much better when he played this stuff, before he became a cliche of himself

@JoelIsaacMills I agree. Unfortunately I think there is a fine line between finding a voice and settling into the same old same old cliche stuff. Definitely a struggle for every artist.

Everyone is complimenting you on your solo which was great, but I noticed something even more intriguing. Your technique is superb. I can tell that you were trained the proper way. You have the bass sitting on your left leg; thus, alleviating the bend in your right hand (which can later cause tendinitis and all other sorts of hand problems). Also, your thumb on your left hand never overlaps the fretboard on the bass. You have a nice wide spread eagles claw with your four fingers. I applaud you

@Mrdebonaire01 Thanks. I actually am mostly self taught. technique has a way of straightening its self out when you start playing stuff like this. In order to physically pull it off on the bass you must have perfect technique. Much of my technique is influenced by guys like Gary Willis, Hadrien Feraud and Matt Garrison. Plus, I have had to deal with tendinitis already (i am 27) and if you want to avoid it you have to learn to correct your technique, especially when playing for a living
