The date was July 20th, 1988. The Columbia 300 Open event changed venue locations. Highland Lanes in Austin, Texas would host this event for the next couple of years before the tournament moved to Astro Lanes in 1992 and 1993. • I spy Robert Lawrence!!!

  • Yup. He's sitting directly behind proprietor Jerry Ray.

  • Wow that was quick!

  • And I saw him clutch a can of a lite beer just as Dave Arnold was about to throw his first shot of the championship match.

  • How did you know it was Lite beer? I thought adult beverages were banned from PBA events.

  • back in 1988 things were quite different. The no alcohol or cigarettes rule came into effect when the Microsoft guys bought the PBA in 1999.

  • That's certainly a good thing when that rule came into effect; it helps to give the sport a better image. ; )

  • Ahhh, it WAS lite beer....I could see him giving it some air time at 0:23....lol!!!!!

  • If you still have it, maybe you can post the other matches.

  • Speaking of Dave Arnold, this year he became exempt. Crazy right?

  • This telecast is on one of my very old bowling tapes, and I remember both Scott and Kent Wagner getting tapped twice in a row on lane 19. Kent afterward left a 4-6 split and a solid-7. He survived a tie-breaker against Mark Baker at 186 and finally struck on that lane the final shot. He looked as if he got loose against Dave next game but the 4th frame when he threw the ball out of bounds nerved him and he never spared afterwards. He lost with a 178 to Dave.
