I remember playing the snes verison called FF2.
I especially remember the crystal walkway into the final area with the orange glowing core in the background while this music played. ahh great memories.

That would most likely be due to
a) the fact that the Roland SC-88 was an extremely prevalent (and I mean extremely - almost every publisher in Japan used it) sound module.
and
b) this is played using a midi converted from the spc dump of the Final Fantasy IV ROM.
It damn well better sound original, because it has basically been reconstructed from the remnants of the original material.
After all is said and done, the music still sounds fantastic.
