  • more hip flick!!

  • thank you for your suggestions

  • Hi! Your technique is pretty good. There's one big problem there, but if you fix that your success rate will be 100%.

You should always keep your left wrist as close to your left hip as possible. This ensures the paddle stays level and as at a rightangle with the boat. This pretty much guarantees the paddle is always in the optimum position, ruling out mishaps like that last attempt. Every time that left arm starts wondering you are losing position on the paddle. Keep that wirst by your hip.

  • thank you for your comments

  • Try to lay the blade as flat on the surface as you can. But truthly you would be better off with a different roll. Oh and if oyu can lift it out o the water then push down. This means the blade will attack the same way it does a high brace an you'll fuind it all round better getting up.

  • I also had some problems doing my first rolls, as I didn't understand the "power" of the hipsnap. Used too much power on the paddle and too little on the hipsnap, so I failed a few times before I got it right :oP

  • Its good that you put the fails in, but that means i fell obliged to give advice for some reason. All you need to do is push down on the water not away, bring your head up last and improve your hip-snap. Easier said than done i kno!

  • Top marks for putting the fails in, most would have cut them out, 5's

  • Seeing what *not* to do is just as important as seeing what's right. Thanks for showing the mistakes too!

  • Yeah, this is a C to C roll. Same one I was taught. Not perfect yet, but he definately has his paddle nice and high out of the water in prep for the sweep, which helps prevent "submarining" the paddle, which was my problem in the beginning...I guess the comment about keeping your left wrist right beside your left hip ensures correct starting position of the paddle.

  • Yeah, people tend to neglect the position of their left hand. They don't realise their paddle stands up straight out of the water giving them zero support.

Also, many people still try to do a sweep as they roll, again compromising perfect position on the paddle.

All this leads to a low success rate for otherwise decent rollers.

  • I had to watch him a few times to see what you were refering to....but now I see it. Thanks from a rookie kayaker.
