just play do re mi fa so la ti...now start at do you get ionian start at re you get dorian start at mi you get phrygian start at fa you get lydian start at so you get myxolydian start at la you get aeolian(also known as minor scale) start at ti you get locrian for eg if you play the aeolian mode in g you are playing nothing but the e minor scale..

yes you'd be playing phrygian applied but wouldn't it be considered ionian if you are talking about natural major or minor scales.

its the 3rd note of the major scale as the root it has a minor tonality and is popular in styles like hard rock and metal.

I don't pretend to know everything about theory; but you say use Phrygian but you highlight the G root, so really you arn't playing in Phrygian, you're playing in G major. Is this correct?
