I'm not sure about SH steam through the whistle. That does not make sense to me. I'll have to ask Doyle about that one...

Beautiful ain't it! in my opinion the most beautiful whistle on any steam locomotive anywhere!

4449's whistle is supplied with superheated steam. When it is not blown for a while, the steam in the line condenses sowewhat and causes the delay in hearing the whistle at full volume.
