Daniel Jatta shows you some basics for playing the Akonting. This is the way Daniel learned from his father in the 1980s.

  • Is this the Daniel Jatta who is responsible for bringing awareness of the Akonting to the world?

  • Correct. It was Daniel I found living 5 miles from my home in Stockholm fall 2000. I brought Daniel to 2000 annual meeting in Boston that fall thus presenting him to the banjo world.

  • i have a broken guitar that sounds just like this instrument.

  • @MSfeller

Why did you take what I said as "hostile"? Did I shout or say it with an angry face? I'm just saying that given historical events, it seems obvious to me.

    Chill.

  • @lionzion22 Whatever, man. I just stated the obvious, no need to be hostile just because I'm a white redneck. Common sense has little space in history, studies and research is what get things done. Besides, it's a theory that the banjo came from that instrument, as much as you might want it to be the case, it is not 100% fact and the origins of the banjo are still obscure, except for the 5-string banjo.

Anyways, that man plays the instrument beautifully, and deserves all the praise.

  • @MSfeller

    Studies? How about common sense?

  • What is the tuning of this akonting?

    Thanks!!
