To preserve the musical quality of Meera's lyrics, I have consciously
made a generous use of rhyme and musical sounding alliteration. I tried
to find apt words that conveyed both Meera's intensity as well as the
euphonious melody of her poetry. What we have is Meera's poems and
not merely her songs in English. These can be set to music and sung. While
rhymes are not a precondition for this, Meera's poems rhyme so effortlessly
that they are intrinsically hummable. In what I call my 'songslation', I have
sought to retain the musical flavour and have accordingly taken liberties
with the English language
