I like the live version of this song more than the official one. It's got so much more life and originality to it...

hahaha thank you.... so right

To the haughty musical snob posers who are misinformed...
The laughter you hear is not audience members joking around. If you'd pay attention, you'd realize they're laughing after the funny lines in the song. The genius of the song is that it's a love ballad about nucler annihilation: beautiful, tragic, and funny all at the same time.
So much for your superior European musical tastes. You didn't even catch the irony in the song.

I have seen him live in the netherlands 2 weeks ago. Great artist, reminds me off Bob dylan some how. i adore this song because of the lyrics. not really nice to say but Josh Ritter already said at the concert that we actually listen to his music.. dont talk when he is playing.. just LISTEN... not laughing or making to much noise. JUST LISTEN!!! he really loved that, he even added 1 hour to the concert cause we really listened.

The missile is the Tree, the Silo the garden. Nuclear annihilation the eating of the fruit of the tree of life. Or it's just a joke. Awesome, awesome song anyway.
Love this guy.

this song sends shivers down my spine whenever I hear it. I'm pretty sure that the missle is supposed to represent the garden of eden and how adam and eve had the choice to "push the button."
I wish he'd make a music video for it :)

he also told that he thought it was a pitty he needed to leave us and move to the UK and America again, because they dont really listen to his music (as you can hear in this clip...laughing in the back etc)

On the other hand, Josh says about this show in his blog, "The show is incredible though. I haven't yet played a real honest to God rock club on this tour, & Little Brother's actually careens past rock club & on towards RAWK KLUBB. It's a sell-out at 400 people & it feels like there are more people than that in here. It's Friday & theres a healthy happy liquor buzz flying around the room. The stage is taller than a horse.... All in all a great night."
