Ray Lamontagne at The Orpheum Theatre on 11/20/09 performing, "You Are The Best Thing," the way he originally wrote it. Apparently he thought it was a little too jazzy for Gossip in the Grain, so he changed it up and it was the last song to be recorded for the album.

  • @saxojon The chord progression is jazzed up! it's how he composed the song at first, then changed it!

  • Whats "jazzy" about this?

  • Wow I thought I loved the album version!

  • i was at this show too..simply incredible..i really love this version in addition to the one on the album

  • sorry "hear" duh

  • i was at this show and have seen ray a few times. i was truly lucky to see him here and here this version so up and close and personal. it was so intimate and amazing i hope he returns to the orpheum again and does another solo show. love you ray!

  • This is good, but whoever said "let's make this catchy, it has potential for so much more." was a smart man. Hopefully, Ray came to the conclusion himself. I'll just pretend he did.

  • jazzy? haha na

  • I've never heard this version! Love it, it's more true to his style than what's on Gossip. Thank you :)

  • reminded me of the Rain song by zeppelin for a bit. im really digging that hes changing the way he plays/sings his songs
