Ray Lamontagne at The Orpheum Theatre on 11/20/09 performing, "You Are The Best Thing," the way he originally wrote it. Apparently he thought it was a little too jazzy for Gossip in the Grain, so he changed it up and it was the last song to be recorded for the album.
@saxojon The chord progression is jazzed up! it's how he composed the song at first, then changed it!

i was at this show and have seen ray a few times. i was truly lucky to see him here and here this version so up and close and personal. it was so intimate and amazing i hope he returns to the orpheum again and does another solo show. love you ray!

This is good, but whoever said "let's make this catchy, it has potential for so much more." was a smart man. Hopefully, Ray came to the conclusion himself. I'll just pretend he did.

I've never heard this version! Love it, it's more true to his style than what's on Gossip. Thank you :)
