Comcast digital conversion alerts

My Comcast service in Western Oregon ceased access to their non-local analog channels and replaced them with an announcements to order a digital device, in order to view the additional channels once again.

These were looped, with no audio (except for an odd sequence of "popping" sounds occasionally) for the days/hours Comcast used them on the deleted channels. I edited two 30 minute clips into a much shorter 30 second clip for convenience.

The first screen is dark, sort of ominous and appeared on January 14th, 2009 followed later by the second, more polished one on January 20th, 2009. Both came from analog channel 66, which was "Food Network" in this area.

We both on the same page on digital req'd. The problem is Comcast Digital Adapter Box Does NOT allowed any Users to view LOCAL Channels in HD via the Cable signals Without a subscribe to (HD) Digital Box! According to FCC this is illegal, but since a lot of ppl watch TV via internet, netflix etc.. no care really know or care.

@NightSociety That isn't illegal you idiot. This isn't the same digital transition that took place in Jun. 2009. I have a Comcast digital cable box that is standard def w/ on demand and I can't watch the HD local OTA channels. Hows that class action LOLsuit going?

So I had comcast high speed internet and regular free tv, both coming from cable connection.

Now I get this message on my tv that I need new equipment, so I call to order it and they tell me they don't provide any free tv anymore, I have to pay $25 a month for regular basic TV!! WHAT!?

Does my memory serve me correctly, cable television was originally to receive

TV programing without commercials ? Maybe my memory has failed me.
