'Fa Fha Pha Ottawa! On-Location (Plein Air) Ottawa International Animation Festival Guerillamation Project. Tick Tock Tom's OIAF Awards come to life in his alchemical workshop. Museum of Civilization

"Here's an annual tradition from the Ottawa International Animation Festival that deserves more press. Every year during the festival, animator and professor Gary Schwartz shoots an experimental short—in exactly one day. This year, Gary used the striking techno-detritus festival awards, created by sculptor Tick Tock Tom, as the inspiration for his one-day stop-motion piece Fa Fha Pha."

I've known Gary Schwartz since, well, since he was a much younger zany filmmaker and animation teacher. In the Webster's Dictionary, under the word "energy," there is a picture of Gary with his infectious grin, a camera and a tripod. If you ever meet him, ask him about taking 3-D pictures of Don Knotts in the Toronto Airport. This year at the Ottawa Animation Festival, as he does every year, Gary made an extremely cool stop motion short -- in one day! This year's edition, Fa Fha Pha Ottawa!, inspired by the Ottawa festival award designed by sculptor Tick Tock Tom, is his best yet!"
"His website proclaims "Gary Schwartz is an award-winning animator, director, artist, filmmaker and teacher. He has taught animation throughout the country and in Europe. Through his company, Single Frame Films, Gary has produced, designed and directed animation for Disney, Sesame Street, MTV, Fox Television, the Corporation for Public Broadcasting and others." To me, he's one of the nicest, most genuine and pleasant people I've met in my 15 years in the biz, his boundless enthusiasm both hilarious and infectious at the same time".

What a fun piece of animation! (Are those Ottawa festival awards trophies?) Reminds me of Jittlov, brothers Quay, and Herbie Hancock. Good sound design too. Touché.

The Ottawa International Animation Film Festival awards are designed & constructed by Tick Tock Tom in Ottawa, Ontario. I wanted to animate these awards since they were given out three years ago! Visited his home last week on Wednesday. Holed myself up in his basement workshop for 9 hours to complete the film for the Sunday awards screening at the Museum of Civilization.
