American Whitewater lists the upper limit of The Chutes at 5.75 feet. This run is at 7 feet on the gauge with Rocky Fork Creek kicking in about 900 cfs to boot. After a beautiful paddle on Rocky Fork Creek, several paddlers decided to liven up the day by running The Chutes at high flow. The water is in the trees on the left bank and at the end, making a swim a very unpleasant day on the water. Plus, Turtle Rock and the bottom ledge created some very big holes.
The line is center then to the left, all the way down the big wave train. Be careful of reactionary waves that pulse and crash (I hit two on crash cycles in the video - lucky me) and avoid the two holes. There are boils galore at the end of the rapid, so watch that stern!
