Croatia (Croatian: Hrvatska), officially the Republic of Croatia (Croatian: Republika Hrvatska), is a country in Central Europe and Southeastern Europe at the crossroads of the Pannonian Plain, the Balkans, and the Adriatic Sea. Its capital and largest city is Zagreb. Croatia borders Slovenia to the north, Hungary to the northeast, Bosnia and Herzegovina to the southeast, Serbia to the east, and Montenegro to the southeast.

The Croats arrived in the early 7th century in what today is Croatia. They organized the state into two dukedoms. The first king, King Tomislav was crowned in AD 925 and Croatia was elevated into the status of a kingdom. The Kingdom of Croatia retained its sovereignty for almost two centuries, reaching its peak during the rule of Kings Peter Krešimir IV and Demetrius Zvonimir. Croatia entered a union with Hungary in 1102. In 1527, the Croatian Parliament elected Ferdinand from the House of Habsburg to the Croatian throne. In 1918, Croatia was included in the short-lived State of Slovenes, Croats, and Serbs that declared independence from Austria--Hungary and co-founded the Kingdom of Yugoslavia. A Croatian state briefly existed during World War II, but it was a Nazi/Fascist puppet-state. After World War II, Croatia became a founding member of the Second Yugoslavia. On 25 June 1991, Croatia declared independence and became a sovereign state.

Since the fall of communism and the end of the Croatian War of Independence, Croatia has achieved high human development and income equality, and ranks highly amongst Central European nations in terms of education, health, quality of life and economic dynamism. Croatia is a member of the United Nations, the Council of Europe, NATO, the World Trade Organization and CEFTA. Croatia is an acceding state of the European Union, with entry expected in July 2013, and is a founding member of the Union for the Mediterranean. Croatia is classified as an emerging and developing economy by the International Monetary Fund and a high income economy by the World Bank.

  • I'm unsure why this video was created but the uploader is somewhat right. We were teached in schools that it was a "personal union" & that both sides entered it willingly. That's just nationalistic BS to justify the weakness of the state. It was plain and simple conquest & Magyar domination. Stuff like that makes history a pseudoscience. Nationalism is the cancer of every society - romatic sentiment created in the 19th century. Abomination of reason & logic.

  • @apoteza Thank you for reenforcing the point of my video and for the wisdom to recognize it and articulate it intelligently and concisely.

Hvala Vam.

Thanks to apoteza for reenforcing the point of my video, for the wisdom to recognize it, and to articulate it intelligently and concisely. Please use English in the future out of respect for our English language readers. Thank you.

  • @apoteza as I remember, queen Jelena, king Zvonimir wife, was a sister of hungarian king and after King Zvonimir died, she proclaim her brother , hungarian king as king of Croatia. Petar Svacic and other Croatian nobles did not accept that and the result was battle at Gvozd mountain and defeat of Croatian army. After that battle, Croatia was under the hungarians... personal union is bullshit, it was not choise of croatian people, otherwise there would not be battle at Gvozd mountain...

  • @Drogho78 In my "educated" opinion, you are correct, and you also happen to be in agreement with apoteza. ;)

  • @bozolazic As for your foolishness, permit excerpt a quote from your profile: "...pompous fools drive me up the wall. Ordinary fools are alright; you can talk to them and try to help them out. But pompous fools -- guys who are fools and covering it all over and impressing people as to how wonderful they are with all this hocus pocus -- THAT, I CANNOT STAND! An ordinary fool isn't a faker; an honest fool is alright. But a dishonest fool is terrible!" ― Richard P. Feynman

  • @bozolazic Now you're being sarcastic with me, a move which will certainly earn you the dubious reward of joining the ranks of your many predecessors whose comments have been deleted and long ago forgotten, then themselves being barred from further contact with me under any of my videos. That, in and of itself, may not break your heart, but watching my videos, disagreeing with them as you do, and being unable to make your snide, sarcastic little remarks may just frustrate you a little.

  • @bozolazic I am not monitored by any dictatorship that I am aware of. I also do not have any paranoid delusions ~ perhaps you do? A wannabe dictator? No, there is nothing "wannabe" about it ~ it is certain that I have achieved it. So, but for the grace of me, here is your posted response. Otherwise, I could have simply deleted it and blocked you. That, by the way, is still not out of the question.

  • @bozolazic Or is it simply because you are too lazy to invest any time, research or facts into a creation of your own making?
