We bought this boiler 5 years ago. It has yet to make it through a single winter without failing. Worcester Bosch have failed to find the recurring fault which seems to occur during long bouts of cold weather. Can you diagnose it? Are we entitled to a replacement given that it has never met its full requirements.

Edit: Changed title to reflect information received.

  • Nah, I'll leave it the way it is. I put this up in an act of desperation after Worcester Bosch themselves seemed unable to diagnose the issue and had a solution very quickly thanks to xrob1. If other people are finding themselves in a similar situation they may stumble onto this video and find the solution as I did in the comments.

I think the initial title I gave it was more direct in its criticism of the boiler. I changed it to a question, the answer to which is apparently "no".

  • I think you're spot on there, gonna have to get some lagging around the pipe outside, particularly with the weather predicted for the rest of this week.

The boiler shut down again today so I disconnected the pipe inside to release the backed-up water, and it started first time. Thanks for your help, saved me a fortune.

  • These boliers are just one of the worst boilers. Its been 6 years, and I had to call the worsterbosh technicians to fix it 4 times. Their support is rubbish and everytime charge you 400 pounds per visit which is just money making technique. Rest, the boiler is not good, EA fault is common and I have a funny feeling as they program the computer in boiler to go faulty after every few months so that they may earn money again.

    NOT A RECOMMENDED BOILER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • W/B are the biggest bags of shit i have ever had the misfortune to work on. Spend a bit extra and get a decent combi not this crap, Remember the money you think you've saved getting cheap shit will be spent on repairs within 18 mnts if you buy worcester. W/B stands for worst boilers,

  • I have had one of the first generation of the condensor boilers it has been nothing but trouble, poor hot water delivery, during the summer and guarenteed to fail in the winter months. I did not take the extended warentee out for £20.00 per month, and waited until it broke down again and purchased a traditional boiler from ebay and replaced it with that. The gas fitter told me that condensor boilers were rubbish and had a limited life span. a trad boiler will last 40 years and just as eco

  • worcester are still the best boilers money can buy ,thats a nationwide issue ,blame the goverment they introduced these older boilers are far more reliable,it will happen to all makes

  • THIS BOILER NEDS A HAMMER PUTTING TO IT! It's failed at least once a year. This year it happened on CHRISTMAS EVE. WE HAVE HAD NO HEATING OR HOT WATER AND BRITISH GAS MAY AS WELL NOT BE ON CALL. THEIR ENGINEERS ARE RUDE AND THEIR PHONE STAFF ARE RIDCULOUSLY RUDE. We have been waiting for a LONG TIME AND THE INSIDE OFMOUR HOUSE HAS BEEN AS LOW AS -7! I hope Worcester Bosch go OUT OF BUSINESS because they must have a larger demand for spare parts than actually installing new boilers.

  • FAULT EA - NO FLAME DETECTED. AWFUL AWFUL BOILER. we have had one replaced already and its still faulting.

  • 1. 32mm condensate will still freeze. IT MUSTBE LAGGED especialy if it has a long diagonal run.

    2. 32mm Pipe wont be defrosted by simply applying hot water, its just too thick.

    3. Worcesters condensing boilers dont dump condensate all in one go, it trickles, hence it freezes.

    4. Run condensate indoors wherever possible, saves hassle.

    5. Never terminate condensate indoors to atmoshpere as its part of the flue!

    6. A new kit is available for atachment to condensates. Has a heated coil etc

  • As others have pointed out, it seems you have a faulty installation not a faulty boiler. Maybe you could change the title of this video to reflect that there is nothing wrong with the boiler, only with the way it has been installed.

  • God I've been sick of seeing this code this year EA Ignition failure.

Your condensate is frozen i can hear the condensate bubbling in the boiler.

Make the external condensate pipe run 32mm or run it inside, But i bet it it's sorted now ; D
