They're not mis-representing your culture, that's the whole point. They're not alluding to Romani specifically, gypsy in common parlance is more of a concept than anything else. They're not claiming to be Romani, it's the gypsy concept, to which noone owns a copyright. And if it's not even a respectful name then why should you resent that other people use it? A word is a word is a word. A rose by any other name would smell as sweet. If it offends you, don't watch it. They don't hurt anyone.

It has a positive association to us. We do not say Rom because gaje like me would not understand what is meant without being told. When bellydancers use the word "gypsy" we mean a spirit of connection across the world, a sense of rootedness even as we travel through life. I hope this helps!

Any one wanting to learn Tribal belly dance this is the collection of dvds you want to buy ...I have bought all of them as every step is so clearly broken down and explained and the practice to join the steps together and the the camera angles is all just perfect..I have bought many a dvd trying to learn the moves and not been able to do them but now I can do them and do them well thanks to this brilliant collection THANKYOU SO MUCH

@Tsigano I understand your comment completely. The name of the group might be misleading, it's more the idea of "gypsies" that other have than the actual Rom culture and dancing. In their favor I have to say that this dancing group had always made clear that they're not Rom o representative of the Rom culture, they chose the name more to represent fusion, wandering, etc.
