Our first lambs of 2009 are due in less than 2 weeks. Can't wait!

Do you milk your sheep and if so how do you find the quality of the milk? and how much do they give and how many months do you milk them?

I only milk a couple of sheep, a couple of times in the spring, to save a little extra colostrum in the freezer, in case I happen to get an orphaned lamb later that needs some.

I have milked a couple, a little bit, on one or two occasions so that I could see what the milk tasted like. It was mild and sweet, with a slight fruity taste almost like cantaloupe.

But I don't have the facilities (or the desire) to get into serious milking for human consumption. I'd rather let the lambs have it!

Thanks for posting the videos of your Icelandic sheep. We recently sold our Nigerian Dwarf goats and want to get some sheep in the near future. We discovered Icelandic sheep on the net last week and they appear to be a perfect fit for us and we hope to purchase some in the future. We found your website among others and found it to be very helpful We live in Floyd now and moved from Louisa. We really love the sounds of the sheep make.
