  • No missile has ever been used as an ICBM IE not for real, the Tiatn was designed as an ICBM, if you go to Vandenberg AFB, there is a time table for these test flights, but they don't state if they are tesing them as ICBM or space lauch vehicles they are just testing them. @ the end of the day it's just a rocket for lauching shit into space both roles are similar it's just an ICBM comes down a lot quicker. If it was lauching a satelite it would be from cape canaveral Air Force Station.

  • Negative, they do satellite launches at VAFB too.

  • the only interesting thing about lompoc, besides the tiny airport, walmart, starbucks, the 40,000 liquor stores, prison, and cloudy beach

  • That view is fucking awesome. the sound is nice too. these launches are probably the best thing about Lompoc.

  • My Dad was a Snr. Mstr. Sgt. at VAFB and we lived on base- I remeber he would tell me on the days they were launching so I wouldn't be afraid that it was an earthquake- I actually fell out of bed once when they launched...lol. (this was back in the mid 60's)

  • i liked living there. best part of mah childhood. pretty sure my dad helped launch that one

  • What memories of watching a launch and then the sound wave hit you......

  • Great shot of the last Titan IV launch ever!

  • I know I realised that a wee bit after I posted the comment when I was looking around @ some other sites

  • i just stumbled across this. it's crazy b/c i had just moved out to lompoc & was at work on central ave when this took place. everyone kind of stopped what they were doing & went out to watch. i'd never seen a launch before & was surprised at how loud & how much force there is (i don't know why, i just was). it rattled the windows in the building & it was a considerable distance away. awesome stuff though.
