The Namyak House building represents sustainable building practices, combining indigenous and modern technologies to provide clean and comfortable surroundings. A half dozen eucalyptus trees planted in the estate forest by the farm fifteen years ago were cut down. Simple wire mesh was nailed to the split eucalyptus log wall structure. Sisal, cement and a little earth for pigment was applied to the interior walls to form a type of ferrocement. A traditional mixture of soil, water and cow dung was applied to the exterior. Cement and soil was packed down over a floor of broken stones. Layered between the roof structure of bradded eucalyptus branches and soil/dung covering is a thin sheet of plastic. A few heavy shield electrical wires were imbedded in the walls and surrounding earth to provide safe and simple electrical lighting and power.
