From July 5th - 10th 2009, The Organ Historical Society will hold its Annual Convention in Cleveland, Ohio. E.M. Skinner Opus 328, located at the Cleveland Auditorium will be one of the instruments toured and heard. This video was shot on January 10th of 2006 and documents Skinner's "Magnum Opus" being started up and played for the first time in 22 years. The OHS hopes that by bringing attention to this historically significant instrument that the citizens of Cleveland will come to appreciate, protect and enjoy the treasure they have in their possession.

  • I noticed that the pipes are placed in the backstage area, rather than in chambers in the audotorium. Does any of the volume get lost since the sound has to go from the stage area to the auditorium? I hope you can get the organ restored and even use it for concerts by both AGO and ATOS.

    Thanks for posting!

  • I'm very happy it's still there. Is the original Skinner console still there? That console looks very much like a Klann console. Is that true?

  • Best of luck with the restoration - it looks as if it will be well worth the effort. Thanks for an interesting video.

  • Thanks Vic, your videos are always beautiful !

  • presentation de l'instrument tres interessante !! continuez a en faire d'autres comme cela !! christian

  • The fact that the organ was not played for so long might be why there's so much potential for a tremendous restoration. PLEASE...Weiler, Quimby, or Thompson-Allen!

  • Our church in Kitchener Ont., "rescued" a beautiful Gabriel Kney 1977 tracker organ two years ago and it is played every single day! Having been through the incredible process of witnessing an organ reasembled and brought back to life I am full of admiration for those who stepped up to the challenge of preserving this much bigger instrument. They are both treasures in their own way.

  • There is a great article about the 1970's restoration of this organ in the Plain Dealer. Not sure the exact date, but has a lot interesting info and some nice pictures. I learned of this when I purchased a small home organ project from the widow of Joseph Nagle (the technician that did restoration work on the civic auditorium organ in the mid 1970's).
