Herbert Jeffrey "Herbie" Hancock (born April 12, 1940) is a jazz pianist and composer. His music embraces elements of rock and soul while adopting freer stylistic elements from jazz.
As part of Miles Davis's "second great quintet", Hancock helped redefine the role of a jazz rhythm section, and was one of the primary architects of the "post-bop" sound. Later, he was one of the first jazz musicians to embrace synthesizers and funk. Yet for all his restless experimentalism, Hancock's music is often melodic and accessible; he has had many songs "cross over" and achieved success among pop audiences.

Empyrean Isles is the fourth album by jazz musician Herbie Hancock, released on June 17, 1964 on Blue Note Records. It features the debut of two of his most popular compositions, "One Finger Snap" and "Cantaloupe Island".

Herbie Hancock — Piano
Freddie Hubbard — Cornet
Ron Carter — Bass
Tony Williams — drums

  • Fucking genius shit. And he kept on doing this with Headhunters. Then Rockit in the 80s. That shit was off the wall!

  • @peaceandlovechick lol yes. but it is a great song.

  • am I the only who can't resist saying "biddy biddy bum..FUNKY FUNKY!"

  • Cool sound he makes at 2:00. How does he do that?

  • @boyter0roger i only saw freddie hubbard live once, in SF at an open air concert. i can't remember how he sounded, but his attitude toward the gig ( as big name headliner with a thrown together group) was pretty blasé. andy narrell was on steel drums and he introduced him as "on steel drums......????....somebody....what's your name boy ...oh ..Andy ....Na.?? Nahrel....he supposed to be good they tell me."

  • @markmarktarmann

I saw Freddie on an off night in the 70's, mostly fluegelhorn, and pretty dull, but when he's on, he's there 100%.
