MISSINGNO. is not the name of it, it is the placeholder for a name and stands for "Missing Number", which is a fallback for the game in case something goes wrong and it can't load it's name.

If it weren't for that fallback, the game would, judging by the fact that MissingNo. is much more common than 'M, most people would just experience the crash.

So counting MissingNo. to the 151 Pokemons is like counting the 404 Error site of all browsers towards the total number of sites on the internet.
