http://www.smallbusinessbc.ca Have you considered why you need a website and whether there are alternate ways to create an online business presence? To find out more about the Get Your Business Online seminar visit Small Business BC.

Kevin McLeod, presenter of Getting Your Business Online, explains that a lot of small businesses think that they want their own website. However these businesses have not taken the time to step back and consider how else they can create an online presence.

With the explosion of social media tools many artists and musicians do not need to create their own website. With Facebook, Twitter and You Tube allowing you to promote yourself and your art through their media, it is now seen as a perfectly acceptable way to promote your art and business.

Another example of using the readily available tools out there is the use of Google Places. If you are a local business like a dry cleaner, a sushi maker or insurance broker - because of the size of your walk-in traffic and the scale of your business - you are probably getting sufficient footfall due to your location. Therefore a website may not add anything to their business.

With Google now giving priority to showing businesses on Google Maps when a person types in "dry cleaner Vancouver", by adding your business and contact details to Google Places, this will often convert to more calls to action than an individual website.

So consider your options and thoroughly asses why do I need a website are there other option for marketing my business.
