First Anniversary of Sandakan Diocese

26 Oct 2008, Sandakan, A welcoming dinner was hosted by the Bishop at a local restaurant for all priests and leaders from all the parishes in the diocese which comprises of Sandakan, Lahad Datu, Tawau, Telupid and the Paitan mission. The visitors were in town to attend the Thanksgiving Eucharistic celebration of the First Anniversary of the Diocese of Sandakan on the following day (27 Oct 2008) at 9.00 a.m. This will be followed by a potluck lunch at the parish hall.

Also present are Bishop Cornelius Piong from the Diocese of Keningau, Monsignor Primus of Kota Kinabalu representing Archbishop John Lee. Also, among the guests are members of the religious congregations from Kota Kinabalu and Keningau.
The bishop in his speech said the Lord has blessed the diocese in many ways and calling the faithful to be proud of all the achievements. He also mentioned that the setting up of BEC will be the thrust of the pastoral activities of the diocese.
The bishop later lights the lamps hold by the respective parish representative as a symbolic move that the parishes will spread the light of Christ to all parts of the diocese.

Many believe too that the celebration would be more meaningful if the various arms and legs of the diocese, the various commissions are already in place.The new identity of our diocese, too, needs to be formulated. This would require our overall strategic vision or diocesan pastoral plan. This vision is important because it provides the diocese and its clergies and pastoral leaders with a long term goal.
