i personally think j-rock bands are more metal than american bands.and their style of visual kei makes people like marylin manson look like a kid in a kitten costume.just sayin.like this or hate this.its your choice

@asyouwish92 lol i'm really not sure how to answer that or if i even can, but i do know that visual labels will get bands to do whatever's popular in the visual kei scene because it makes them the most money. obviously the music still varies from band to band, but in Japan visual kei bands are about the equivalent of boy bands in the western music industry so they have to stick to what's "popular" in vk which is usually rock or metal.

@TheRed343 that's interesting, I never thought about that in that way. So, I understand that what you are saying is that they usually wear those extreme looks to call attention so they can became popular because that really calls attention, sounds logical. But I don't see that in case of music ¿do you consider that they start with music which sounds more like metal to cal attention and then when they are popular they do softer music, because that's what they want?

@asyouwish92 that's because for a lot of these bands the visual kei scene is their gateway to getting into bigger things, and when you're signed to a vk label obviously you've going to be doing vk, but then when they get bigger, and are free to do their own thing they may go a different direction. A lot of these guys only start off doing vk because they were offered the opportunity by a company that thought they would do it well, and it's a good way to get your name out there quickly.

I also prefer Japanese metal, but after listening to it for almost 5 years, I have discovered that there is a problem with these kind of music. As well as in J-rock when these artist become more and more popular, they tend to loose their extreme looks and go more to an acceptable-for-everyone-style like white kei, and what's more important their songs tend to normalize too, with less screamo and less distortion with guitars.
