The open-air fruit market in Venice, Italy and the fish market (mercato dei pesci) right next to it are said to be the greatest outdoor markets in the world! This is what happened when I showed up to document them during the summer of 2006. This was probably around 10 am. The fishermen and merchants show up before sunrise and set up. By 1 pm it is all over- until the following day when it all starts again. This is in the San Polo section of Venezia, near the Rialto Bridge. Like pulling mussels from a shell. Bellisimo!
