This video shows you how to use a door strap and resistance bands to simulate a pull-up. If you can't afford a pull-up bar, this alternative will still do the job. Thanks to everyone in the YouTube community who have done vids on this as well prior to me. I decided to do one after multiple requests. http://www.dropthatgut.com (Click on the "Join WOWY For Free" for access to member forums and an online scheduler for your workouts!)

  • I'm just glad this didn't turn into a youtube blooper/injury video! But seriously I used to use the bands but wasn't getting the tension i wanted on the pull ups so I used the chair technique, and it worked. This coming from an obese guy that can't do a single pull up to save his life!

  • @hrsjunk Yeah, I was hoping it wouldn't either. It could've easily happened if I had tried to do another set of pull-ups after I opened the door the 2nd time, lol. If you're not getting the tension you want, it's because the bands you used probably weren't heavy enough. I'm also about to purchase the 80 and 100lbs resistance bands. Those should provide plenty of resistance.

  • I def wouldn't want that piece to coming flying at me with 50 lbs of weight behind it, that would leave a mark. I tried using the bands once for pull ups and I felt like I could go on and on. Maybe I should hav used a heavier band. U got a lil wrkout there.

  • @souljagurlsha Yeah, you definitely need to get some of the heaviest bands possible, especially at the level you're at. I wouldn't recommend using cheap bands or low resistance ones. I did get a little workout, lol. Wasn't planning on it, but wanted to make sure I demonstrated the exercise.

  • @khalilguinn @scribedry the hinge method works!!! My face thank you teehee :)

  • @scribedry Thanks sweets, but the other side of my door faces a wall. I will try the hinge method and just put my 2 20s in front of the door just in case!!

  • @scribedry Great suggestion!!

  • @mzebony A prime example of why you should use a door that has a lock if possible, lol. Putting the door strap above the hinge really made a big difference though, so I would try that next on a door that has a lock. :)

  • @mzebony : try doing your exercises from the other side of the door....the door will not come open at all because you are working out from the other side....it may be one solution....

  • I tried this and the door flew open and everything nearly hit me in my face LOL (my door doesn't lock) I have to find another solution!! :( Nice vid hun!!
