This Senior Group documentary was awarded 1st Place in WA state and 2nd place in the National Competition. It is titled "From Isolation to Empire: The Aftermath of the Spanish-American War" and is about the debate over American imperialism following the Wars of 1898.
The theme for this year was Debate and Diplomacy: Successes, Failures, and Consequences.

  • Um. Quick notes:

    1. Where is Puerto Rico? No mention of that island, and it's still a colony.

    2. Over 1 million people died from the Phillipino genocide. Spain ceeded a group of islands that had more ethnic group in 1898 than what it had in 1913. So, yeah, genocide.

    3. There were 'benefits' for everyone involved, colonies and empire. But, definitely, more benefits to the empire than the colonies. So, no, no moral high ground there either!

    Either ways, pretty solid job all around.
