I'm agnostic.

- He assumes all without belief in God follow consumerism and narcissism - No.

- He assumes self meaning is narcissistic. Not if that is sustainable meaning.

- He assumes we are unimportant because we will all die eventually. Time is just a dimension.

- He's making people feel unimportant, then suggesting because they are they must turn to God. And we are not alone, we always have ourselves and life around us. Be strong.

a bit of a statement to say people didn't commit acts of escapism whilst being religious, im agnostic and faith is believing in something regardless of the evidence against, more respect for a devotion to theism than atheism, but i wish i could see it

He's absolutely right. Unless we embrace a god, life is rendered meaningless, pointless, absurd and much much worse than this, it contains unnecessary suffering and death. Unfortunately I am an atheist ;(

Furthermore, intrinsic meaning is impossible. Even if a big guy in the clouds did impose a meaning upon me, I would have to consciously decide that it matters to me in order for it to seem purposeful to me.  We necessarily HAVE to make our own meaning with or without a deity.

Unfortunately, there's a lot of truth in what he says about nihilism, materialism, escapism, and so forth. However, even if a godless universe is truly unpalatable, that doesn't mean it's not the case. You might decide that a universe in which you're not a billionaire isn't acceptable, but that won't make you any richer. Reality persists independent of our needs and desires.

I am atheist but im not an ignorant person if ur christian i wont judge u unless u judge me wat i dont get is why cant be believe what we want to believe i mean so wat i am atheist does tht mean tht people can just go around saying ur dumbass for not believing in god? People need to learn to acept peoples choices not make fun of them for wat they believe in.
