@JUDALATION What? Of course conservation is a must for every country. We are not in the time when the west did mistakes when developing. That was long ago and this is 2011. Africa still has amazing wildlife and ecosystems that can be protected. Of course this does not mean that Africa cannot develop. It must develop but respecting this and using it in its favor, as kalaharithorn pointed out, for tourism. We are in the 21st century, not in the 1750. Things can be done better now.
Insult me again please, I am starting to like it. You are good at that, but not at reading: I said that they must go together, not that development shouldn´t happen. In answer to your question: Every country needs conservation. There is your list. Anything else means develop today, but beware of tomorrow, when your land and resources are gone. In case you missed it before: Botswana's tourism income is the second of the country's economy, only behind diamond exports.
@kalaharithorn Conservation? What country needs conservation? Give me a name or shut up! Telling a country in Africa that it needs to conserve wildlife is like telling a skinny person to loose weight. Once again tell me what countries need to "conserve" wildlife and I will give you a list of countries that need to develope their land... Untill you have that list STFU!
@JUDALATION Thank you for you insults once again. Your mind is quite small but your mouth is quite big. Conservation and development can and must go together, no matter what you say. Of course I don't know anything about Africa, I just happen to live in Africa. And of course you know more about Africa than a Nobel Price winner like Maathai, sorry for forgetting that. Go back to your shooting/war video games - this is beyond your field.
@kalaharithorn HUH? the WEST put UP ALL THE GOVERNMENTS IN AFRICA TODAY! Almost Every single leader has been propped up by the west! The west also colonialized the Entire continent and the governments are carbon copies of the corrupt countries that conolized them. You dont know shit about Africa and are full of it! You need to look at the Military buget of these corrupt governments... Im done talking to a dumbass!
why I don't believe that you have read the book: it's about different cases of african countries, not about Africa as a unique country, as you said. And go develop a country like Bostwana (a semi desert) with your agriculture. Good luck growing crops and developing with that. In fact, Botswana's second form of income comes from TOURISM (yes, people who travel to admire its wildlife), only behind diamond exports. And, this is also MY future since I live here. More than it is yours, living in US.
@JUDALATION Either you are not saying the truth about reading that book or you don´t understanding what it is saying. The fact that you say that it reflects western thinking is just nonsense. And please stop speaking about the west; we are talking about Africa here and you keep referring to the same old song: blaming underdevelopment to the west. Africa is rich in natural resources and if many countries are poor this is because of corrupt governments. That is WHY in fact.......
@kalaharithorn I have read the Book... It is merely a restatementy of western hopes for the continent. There are over 50 countries in Africa and any book that claims to solve them ia s joke... The problem with most countries in Africa is a lack of health, developed infrastructure, Compitent government, and intelictual property. Africa needs to develop land for food, housing and buisnesses, countries being mostly wilderness wont cut it in the modern world. This is Our future like it or not!
@JUDALATION First of all, don't insult me. Who do you think you are? Second, your profile says that you live in the USA. Go figure. Third, the same way you ask me not to speak for all the people in my country, you do the same thing. I wasn´t speaking for anybody, but expressing what my opinion is. Fourth, you clearly have not read the book that I quoted, your sentence proofs that you have no clue what she wrote. Have a good day. I am done speaking to you.
@kalaharithorn I dont live in the USA and You dont speak for all the people in your country! The Problem with Wangari is the western thinking that really wants Countries in Africa to stay undeveloped so they can buy their resources cheap. The primary goal of the west is to "protect" the Animals, NOT progress. That is why the West is buying polititions to prevent development. No country in Africa is so developed as to worry about the enviroment! thats a future debate you idiot!
